Phishing & “verify your account” scams
A message pretends to be from a service you use and pushes you to a fake page to steal your login, card, or codes.
Informational only — not legal or financial advice.
How it works
- You get an email/SMS that looks official (bank, delivery, tax, email provider).
- It warns of a problem — account blocked, payment failed, unusual login — and gives a link.
- The link opens a copy of the real site that captures whatever you type.
Red flags
- Urgency and threats (“act within 24 hours or your account is closed”).
- A link whose address is not the real official domain.
- Asks for password, card number, or a one-time code by following the link.
What to do
- Open the service yourself by typing its address or using your saved bookmark/app.
- Check directly in the official app whether anything is really wrong.
- If unsure, contact the company through a number you find yourself.
What NOT to do
- Do not click the link or enter any details on the page it opens.
- Do not share passwords, card numbers, or one-time codes.
